A Leader in the Hadramout Tribal Alliance to “Yemen Monitor”: Tribal Crowds Arrive at the Plateau to Discuss “Security Support” Threats and Respond to Them

Yemen Monitor / Hadramout / Exclusive:

Sabri bin Makhashen, a leader in the Hadramout Tribal Alliance, said that tribes have been gathering at the plateau in response to a call issued by the head of the alliance, following recent developments in the governorate.

In a special statement to Yemen Monitor, he said that Sheikh Ben Habreish’s call for tribal leaders, dignitaries, elders, and youth to attend an emergency meeting on Thursday, November 27, came to discuss the security and military threats facing Hadramout and how to respond to them.

He explained that the meeting was convened in an exceptional and urgent manner in response to statements made by the Commander of the Security Support Forces, Abu Ali Al-Hadrami, whom he described as leading “illegal formations.”

He added that the gathered tribes will discuss the root causes of the escalation, in addition to the Presidential Leadership Council’s failure to meet the demands of the people of Hadramout and its failure to implement the presidential statement issued on January 7, 2025.

He confirmed that the meeting will adopt steps to secure Hadramout’s rights, noting that details of these steps will be announced after tomorrow’s meeting on the Hadramout Plateau.

The Presidential Leadership Council had previously issued a statement to normalize the situation in Hadramout, stipulating that revenues from the sale of crude oil stored in the Dabba and Masila terminals be allocated to fund the construction of two new power plants, strengthen political partnership and unity among the people of Hadramout, integrate Hadramout’s youth into the security and military forces, and establish a general hospital on the plateau (Ghail Bawazir region).

Hadramout has witnessed escalating tension following movements by the armed Security Support Forces into areas under the control of the Hadramout Protection Forces—which are affiliated with the Tribal Alliance. The situation intensified after the commander of the Security Support Forces issued threats against Ben Habreish and the alliance he leads, declaring that he would not allow any armed formations on the plateau. In response, the Tribal Alliance called on the tribes to convene and discuss the security and military situation.
