Yemeni Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Taher Al-Aqili, affirmed that the armed forces are heading toward resolving the battle against the Houthi group, describing it as a “theocratic tool” executing Tehran’s regional agenda.
Al-Aqili said, in statements published on his official account, that the Houthis are a group that “has proven since its inception and over more than a decade that it thrives only on cycles and rounds of violence, terrorism, and piracy,” pointing to its continued targeting of the Yemeni people’s resources and exploitation of the country’s geographic location to threaten international navigation and neighboring countries.
He added, “Based on its constitutional duties and in close coordination with the Coalition to Support Legitimacy and international partners, it will confront all forms of Houthi terrorism that destabilizes the security of waterways and maritime navigation.”
He pointed out that regional and international peace and security will not be permanently achieved “except by severing the arm of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, represented by this rogue group, and extending full state control over all national territory.”
In recent days, military tension has escalated between the Houthis, the Yemeni government, and the Saudi-led Coalition to Support Legitimacy, following attacks targeting Saudi facilities and the subsequent response with airstrikes in Hudaidah.
