The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms said on Sunday that it documented the killing of three civilians and the injury of two others by gunfire from gunmen belonging to the Houthi group in Al-Jawf Governorate (northern Yemen).
The Network added, in a statement, that the victims belong to the Al Ja’eed (Dahm) tribe. They were killed and injured after being subjected to gunfire by Houthi elements at the “Al-Muhayr” checkpoint in Khabb wa ash Sha’af District while returning to their villages, which was followed by the outbreak of limited clashes between the tribesmen and members of the group.
According to the statement, the deceased are: Hamad Hadi Bakhran, Hamad Musfir Shinan, and Mubarak Abdullah Shinan, while Mohsen Saleh Zahban and Abd Rabbo Mansour were injured.
The Network indicated that the incident caused escalation of tensions between the Al Ja’eed tribes and the Houthi group in the region.
It pointed out that the incident occurred hours after two Houthi members were killed in clashes with unidentified gunmen at the “Qahb Al-Hisan” checkpoint in Bilad Al-Qa’aif area of the same district, explaining that the group accused the Al Ja’eed tribes of being behind the incident, while the tribe denied any connection to it.
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms expressed its concern over the Houthis’ continued use of lethal force against civilians, warning that these practices could escalate tribal tensions and undermine security and stability in Al-Jawf Governorate.
