Report of a Ship Attacked by an Unknown Projectile in the Southern Red Sea

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on Sunday that it received a report of a ship coming under attack in the southern Red Sea following the fall of an unknown projectile near it.

The agency said in a statement that “the tanker reported an unknown projectile falling in close proximity to it,” confirming the safety of the vessel and its crew, with no damage recorded.

The agency urged ships transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity, noting that investigations are still ongoing.

The agency did not disclose the identity of the targeted vessel or the flag state it sails under, while no party has claimed responsibility for the attack as of 10:45 GMT, nor have there been reports of damage to vessels belonging to other countries.

The incident comes amid rising tensions surrounding maritime navigation in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, against the backdrop of renewed tension between the United States and Iran over recent weeks.
