Yemen Exits Arab Cup After Dramatic Comeback by Comoros

Yemen Monitor/Sport News:

The Arab Cup qualifiers witnessed one of the most dramatic moments this year, as the Yemeni national team was eliminated from the tournament in a shocking manner by Comoros, despite leading 4-2 until the 90th minute. The match was then turned upside down and concluded with a penalty shootout, which the Comorian team won.

The Yemeni team dominated the match proceedings for long periods and succeeded in scoring four goals just minutes before the end of regular time. Haroun Al-Zubaidi, Nasser Mohammedou, and Abdulwasea Al-Matari scored in the first half, while Comoros’ first goal came from a penalty kick.

However, a lack of focus in the final minutes and a defensive retreat gave Comoros the opportunity to score two consecutive goals in the 90th and 94th minutes, shocking the Yemeni fans.

With the match heading to a penalty shootout after regular time ended in a 4-4 draw, the Yemeni players failed to convert their kicks confidently, and the team lost 4-2, while the Comoros players demonstrated great composure, earning them the qualification ticket.

With this dramatic victory, the Comoros national team qualified for the group stage of the Arab Cup, joining Group B, which includes the national teams of Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and Oman.
