Saudi Demining Project in Yemen Announces Disarming of 2,676 Mines in One Week

The “Masam” Project for clearing Yemeni lands of mines announced the extraction of 2,676 mines, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during the third week of February 2026, as part of its ongoing efforts to remove the remnants of war and reduce their risks to civilians.

A statement issued by the project explained that the removed materials included 17 anti-personnel mines, 149 anti-tank mines, and 2,484 unexploded ordnance, in addition to 2 improvised explosive devices.

The statement indicated that field teams removed 246 unexploded ordnance in Aden Governorate, and an anti-tank mine was dismantled in the Hays District of Hudaidah Governorate. In the Mukalla District of Hadramawt Governorate, 15 anti-personnel mines, 2 anti-tank mines, and 1,887 unexploded ordnance were removed.

In the Midi District of Hajjah Governorate, teams removed 141 anti-tank mines, 326 unexploded ordnance, and 26 improvised explosive devices. An anti-tank mine was also removed in the Raghwan District of Marib Governorate, and an unexploded ordnance in the Ain District of Shabwah Governorate.

As for the Dhubab District in Taiz Governorate, 2 anti-personnel mines, 4 anti-tank mines, and 20 unexploded ordnance were dismantled, in addition to 2 unexploded ordnance within the district’s scope.

Accordingly, the number of mines removed since the beginning of February rises to 6,682, while the total number of mines dismantled since the launch of the project reached 544,187, which were planted in several governorates and posed a constant threat to the lives of civilians.
