Child Killed, Another Injured by Houthi Landmine Explosion in Nihm, East of Sana’a

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

A child was killed and another seriously injured after a landmine reportedly left behind by the Houthi group exploded in Nihm District, northeast of Sana’a.

According to the Shuhood organization, 15-year-old Adam Ali Al-Qalam was killed, while 13-year-old Ali Ali Juzeelan suffered the amputation of one leg below the knee when the landmine exploded last Friday in Al-Athibi area, district of Nihm.

The organization stated that the incident occurred while the two boys were herding sheep for a monthly wage on behalf of local residents.

Shuhood reported that Adam Al-Qalam, originally from Al-Haymah Al-Kharijiyah District, died instantly after sustaining multiple shrapnel wounds across his body. Meanwhile, Ali Juzeelan remains under medical care and is receiving treatment for his injuries.

The organization held the Houthi group fully and directly responsible for the incident, alleging that they had planted anti-personnel landmines in civilian areas, grazing routes, farmland, and roads regularly used by local residents.

Landmines and unexploded ordnance continue to pose a major threat to civilians in several parts of Yemen, particularly in former conflict zones where agricultural lands, villages, and grazing areas remain contaminated.
