UNESCO Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Saudi Program to Preserve Yemeni Cultural Heritage

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) to strengthen cooperation in protecting Yemeni cultural heritage and supporting the national institutions responsible for its preservation.

The agreement was signed on behalf of UNESCO by Salah El-Din Zaki Khaled, the organization’s representative to the Gulf States and Yemen and Director of its Doha office. Representing the Saudi side was Engineer Hassan Al-Attas, Assistant General Supervisor of the SDRPY.

The memorandum includes providing technical support and building institutional capacity in the fields of heritage, culture, and education, with a specific focus on identifying sites eligible for inclusion on the World Heritage List.

This agreement is an extension of a previous partnership that successfully restored the historic Seiyun Palace, supported basic education, and implemented cultural and developmental initiatives aimed at preserving and reviving historical heritage while enhancing its role in sustainable development in Yemen.
