UN Movement in Muscat to Boost Yemeni Dialogue and Push for the Release of Detainees

In a new phase of diplomatic engagement, the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, held a series of high-level meetings today in the Omani capital, Muscat, during which he discussed the latest developments in the Yemeni situation amid rapidly evolving regional complexities.
During his talks with senior Omani officials, Grundberg expressed his deep appreciation for the role played by the Sultanate of Oman, praising its continued support for UN-led peace efforts and its persistent endeavors to create a conducive environment for dialogue and de-escalation.
In the same context, the UN envoy met with the chief negotiator of the Houthis, Mohammed Abdulsalam, with discussions focusing on ways to break the political deadlock and enhance prospects for resuming dialogue.
Grundberg also stressed the importance of maintaining the momentum achieved in the file of releasing conflict-related detainees and building on the outcomes of the meeting that concluded in Muscat on December 23, 2025.
Throughout his meetings, Grundberg affirmed that the United Nations will continue its active engagement with all parties in support of a return to a comprehensive political process that opens the door to sustainable solutions, meets the aspirations of Yemenis, and at the same time takes regional concerns into account.
Regarding the detention file, the UN envoy, together with the UN official in charge of detainees, Moeen Shreim, addressed the issue of the continued arbitrary detention of UN staff by the Houthi group, renewing the call for their immediate and unconditional release, and emphasizing that the safety and security of UN personnel are a non-negotiable priority.
