Governor of Aden Takes Constitutional Oath Before Head of Presidential Leadership Council

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Abdulrahman Sheikh Abdulrahman al-Yafei took the constitutional oath today, Saturday, before Yemeni President Rashad Mohammed al-Alimi, Head of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), following his appointment as Minister of State and Governor of Aden. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Buraik.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, the President of the PLC held a meeting with the new Governor to discuss priorities for the upcoming phase—following the successful handover of military camps. Primary objectives include normalizing public life, establishing security and stability, and strengthening the rule of law to pave the way for a promising era of development and reconstruction in the temporary capital.

President al-Alimi emphasized the priority of unifying security decision-making in Aden and strengthening the role of the Security Committee. This includes ensuring that weapons are held exclusively by the state and enabling national institutions to exercise their exclusive powers.

Furthermore, the President urged all parties to uphold the values of tolerance, coexistence, and social peace, and to prevent any acts of revenge or retaliation. He also stressed the importance of facilitating the work of relief organizations, ensuring the flow of aid, and improving living standards for citizens.

The President directed the Governor and local authorities to work jointly with the government to:

  • Improve basic services, particularly electricity.
  • Create a safe and attractive environment for investment.
  • Remove administrative hurdles and improve local and sovereign revenues.
  • Stimulate economic activity and restore confidence in Aden and its historic port as a global commercial hub.

The President expressed his great confidence in the new Governor’s ability to lead Aden as a model for the rule of law and institutional work, in full coordination with the central government. He noted that this would contribute to maintaining Aden’s pivotal role in the national struggle against the Iranian-backed Houthis.
