Tribal Gunmen Detain Gas Shipments in Abyan as Ransom for Release of Tribe’s Detainees

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Tribal gunmen in Abyan province have detained a number of domestic gas tanker trucks coming from Marib and heading towards Aden, in an escalation aimed at pressuring security agencies.
Local sources stated that members of the Al-Maghour tribe set up a tribal checkpoint on the international road in the Arqoub area, completely preventing the passage of gas trucks.
The sources explained that the gunmen are conditioning the release of the tankers on the freeing of detainees from their tribe, who have been held by security agencies in Abyan for several months.
The gunmen accuse Abyan security administration of procrastinating in resolving the issue of their relatives, and of not referring the case to the judiciary or issuing a verdict, after exhausting all available means to follow up on previous cases that led to their detention.
