Yemeni President Hints at Legal Measures Against Ministers and Officials Who Supported the Secession of the South
Yemen Monitor / Riyadh / Exclusive:
On Sunday, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, directed the Yemeni government to take firm legal and administrative measures against any official who exceeds their constitutional powers or adopts political stances inconsistent with the frameworks of the transitional phase. He emphasized that the Council is the sole body authorized to determine the state’s highest policies.
This comes after a number of ministers and officials affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) appeared in televised statements calling for the secession of southern Yemen.
A responsible source in the Office of the Presidency of the Republic stated that President Al-Alimi is closely following the repercussions of recent statements and remarks made by ministers and executive officials, considering them a “deviation from functional duties” and a violation of the legal frameworks governing the work of state institutions in the current phase.
The source stressed that the presidential directives mandate that all officials within the executive structure must adhere to the decisions of the Leadership Council and the government program, and strictly abide by the declaration for the transfer of power and the Riyadh Agreement.
He indicated that any attempt to impose policies outside these frameworks is considered a “violation of the state’s legal standing” and a threat to the unity of its institutions.
The presidential statement warned that exploiting official positions to achieve private political gains represents a “grave breach of the constitution” that necessitates legal accountability, given the harm it inflicts on civil peace and the national consensus existing among the components united under the banner of legitimacy.
In a direct political message, President Al-Alimi urged those he described as partners in the “STC” to prioritize the language of dialogue and wisdom, and to avoid dragging the country into unprecedented threats that could squander achieved gains, including “the gains of the southern cause.”
The source concluded by affirming the President’s emphasis on the necessity of popular and political rallying around the project of the “national state,” and mobilizing all efforts towards the central battle of restoring state institutions and ending the Iranian-backed Houthi coup.
