At a sensitive time for the eastern governorates, Al-Mahra Governor Mohammed Ali Yasser chaired an expanded consultative meeting at the governorate’s headquarters, bringing together a group of tribal sheikhs, dignitaries, and social figures. The meeting was attended by Local Council Secretary-General Salem Abdullah Neimer and First Deputy Governor Brig. Gen. Dr. Mukhtar bin Owaid al-Jaafari.
During the meeting, the governor reviewed a number of recent national developments and their potential repercussions for Al-Mahra, stressing that the current phase requires the highest levels of wisdom and responsibility to preserve security and stability and spare the governorate any tensions or uncalculated slippage.
Governor Yasser emphasized that Al-Mahra is enjoying a state of stability and moving steadily in the right direction, noting that the awareness of its people and the cohesion of its social components have helped keep the governorate away from cycles of violence and bloodshed, despite surrounding challenges.
He affirmed that the people of Al-Mahra form a cohesive social fabric that is not divided by affiliations, whether northern or southern, stressing that the doors of dialogue and communication remain open to all, in a way that strengthens unity and serves the public interest of the governorate and its people.
The governor also pointed to the continuous efforts exerted by the local authority, in coordination with tribal sheikhs, dignitaries, and various stakeholders, to reinforce public calm and maintain stability. He affirmed that conditions are proceeding normally and that Al-Mahra has previously overcome difficult phases without being drawn into violence.
He explained that communication is ongoing with various political components and relevant parties, as well as with brothers in the coalition and neighboring countries and regional partners, within a shared commitment to safeguarding the governorate’s security and stability. He stressed that Al-Mahra has been and will remain a welcoming home for all Yemenis, and that dialogue is the best way to address any issues or developments.
Governor Yasser renewed his affirmation that freedom of expression is guaranteed for all, provided it adheres to the law and social peace, warning against dragging tribes into any political rivalries or conflicts, given the negative impact this would have on social cohesion and overall stability.
For their part, the attending sheikhs and dignitaries expressed high appreciation for the participatory approach adopted by the local leadership, commending the governor’s efforts to promote de-escalation and safeguard security and stability. They emphasized the importance of continuing this path based on wisdom, consultation, and prioritizing the public interest.
Participants called for adopting a rational and calm discourse, rejecting incitement, and maintaining positive relations with all parties, stressing the need to thwart any attempts aimed at stirring tension or undermining the cohesive social fabric.
The meeting also discussed a number of issues and observations related to security and services, traffic organization, and the development of practical mechanisms to reduce potential friction and strengthen overall unity.
In conclusion, attendees unanimously agreed that responsibility for security, stability, and improving services is a shared one, affirming that Al-Mahra will remain a model of social cohesion and, through its people and all its components, capable of overcoming challenges in a manner that serves the interests of the governorate and its residents.
