Rights Groups Call for Urgent Investigation into STC Abuses in Hadramowt, Eastern Yemen

Yemen Monitor | Newsroom:
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has called on Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi to open an urgent and independent investigation into the serious violations documented by the network during the recent events in Wadi and the desert areas of Hadramowt.
The network’s director, Mohammed al-Omda, said that field monitoring and documentation teams recorded a series of grave violations, including armed assaults, extrajudicial killings, the execution of wounded individuals and detainees, arbitrary arrests, and raids on homes and commercial shops without judicial warrants. He added that the abuses also included widespread forced displacement affecting hundreds of families, in clear violation of the Yemeni constitution as well as national and international laws.
Al-Omda stressed that these violations, if assessed within their proper legal framework, could amount to serious crimes requiring criminal accountability. He emphasized that delivering justice to victims and holding those responsible accountable—without exception—constitutes a critical test of state authority and the rule of law, and sends a necessary message to halt the cycle of violence and impunity.
The network called for ensuring the protection of witnesses and victims, preserving evidence, and preventing the justice process from being subjected to political or military considerations. It also affirmed the right to resort to international mechanisms should the national justice process falter.
In concluding its statement, the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms reaffirmed its commitment to continue monitoring and documenting all violations against civilians in Hadramowt and other governorates, and to submit documented reports to the presidency, relevant authorities, and international organizations, in support of human rights, the protection of civilians, and the safeguarding of Yemeni lives.
