Head of the Yemeni Presidential Council: Withdrawal of “Incoming Forces” is Sole Option for Normalizing Conditions

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, the head of Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), affirmed that the immediate withdrawal of all incoming forces from outside the governorates of Hadramowt and Al-Mahra is the sole option for normalizing conditions in the eastern governorates.

During a phone call with the Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen, Ahmed Ghaleb, which was dedicated to discussing the latest economic and monetary developments, Al-Alimi stressed that the continuation of the current situation exacerbates financial challenges and undermines opportunities for economic recovery.

Al-Alimi considered the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) decision to suspend its activities in Yemen a “wake-up call” that confirms political stability is an essential prerequisite for the success of any economic reforms.

The head of the PLC explained that the withdrawal from Hadramowt and Al-Mahra constitutes a key gateway to restoring economic growth and enhancing confidence with the donor community. He emphasized that any delay in addressing the security situation will negatively affect financial and service stability.

Al-Alimi was briefed by the Central Bank Governor on the level of implementation of the PLC’s decisions related to addressing imbalances in public revenue collection. He also reviewed current financial and monetary indicators, and the efforts required to contain the effects of the IMF’s decision on the stability of the national currency, the flow of fuel and goods, and the improvement of basic services.

The call also touched upon the efforts of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, to de-escalate tensions and normalize the situation in the Hadramowt and Al-Mahra governorates.
