Sudden Military Escalation in Hadramowt Follows Reconciliation Deal; Clashes Spread

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Hadramout governorates witnessed a sudden military escalation this Thursday morning, a scene that warns of widespread confrontations breaking out, just hours after a local reconciliation agreement was signed.

According to field sources, militias of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) launched fierce attacks on the positions of the Hadramowt Protection Forces. These attacks were supported by Yafe’ and Dhale’a tribes and involved the use of heavy weapons and artillery, along with air support from offensive drones.

These attacks came immediately after a reconciliation agreement was signed between the local authority in Hadramowt and the Hadramowt Tribal Alliance, under Saudi sponsorship, raising questions about the motives for the escalation at this particular time.

The shelling and clashes focused on the Nazi checkpoint and the DNO area, which are considered strategic locations leading to the oil companies in the plateau.

In a related context, intense confrontations are ongoing in several axes, most notably the Al-Hisr and DNO areas, where heavy clashes are taking place between the Hadramowt Protection Forces on one side, and the STC militias—backed by the Yafe’ and Dhale’a tribes—on the other.

This escalation comes amid rising military and security tensions in the region, despite recent diplomatic efforts to contain the crisis, raising fears of a worsening situation and the expansion of the clashes.
