“Al-Thawra” Newspaper Resumes Publication in Digital Format After Hiatus of Over Ten Years

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom / Exclusive:

Al-Thawra newspaper has resumed publication in a digital (PDF) format, spanning eight pages, after an eleven-year hiatus. This revival aims to restore the oldest official Yemeni newspaper and reclaim its documentary and media role during this critical period in Yemen’s history.

In a special statement to “Yemen Monitor,” Sam Al-Ghobari, Chairman of Al-Thawra’s Board of Directors, stated that efforts are underway to reactivate its branches in the liberated governorates, recover its main building in Aden, and open new offices in Shabwa, Al-Mahra, and Taiz. This is part of a comprehensive plan to expand its media activities and serve Yemeni readers across various governorates.

He added that the focus is on establishing main headquarters for the institution in Aden, Marib, and the Coast, and that follow-up efforts are ongoing with the President and members of the Presidential Leadership Council to restore Al-Thawra’s presence in those areas.

He indicated that work is proceeding according to a plan within the general budget submitted to the government, to train as many photographers, journalists, and content writers as possible, with the goal of enhancing their reach on social media platforms.

He explained that current efforts are concentrated on developing the digital version of the newspaper, considering it the most suitable option at the present stage. He affirmed that the return to print will occur soon, God willing, when suitable technical and financial conditions are available.

In response to whether there is a specific timeline for returning to the print version and daily publication of the newspaper, Al-Ghobari said, “We do not want to commit the reader to a specific date, but we are working with a realistic plan that prioritizes digital transformation, while seriously preparing for the return to print.”
