The Yemeni government strongly condemned the attack launched by the Iran-backed Houthi group targeting a commercial vessel belonging to a Saudi company in international waters in the Red Sea.
In an official statement today, the government emphasized that the group’s explicit claim of responsibility for these attacks targeting civilian vessels and global energy supplies “confirms its terrorist nature and reveals its insistence on threatening regional and international security, gambling with the livelihoods of Yemenis, and exacerbating their suffering.”
The statement pointed out that this escalation proves once again that the Houthis’ claims regarding the existence of a “blockade” are merely repeated pretexts to escape their responsibility for starving the Yemeni people and plundering their resources.
The government noted that official data and maritime traffic confirm the continued flow of hundreds of ships loaded with food and fuel to ports under the group’s control, which completely refutes its narrative and confirms that the humanitarian disaster is primarily the result of the war economy and Houthi plundering policies.
The government affirmed that the timing of this escalation and the nature of the targets confirm that these operations are tied to external calculations and agendas dictated by the Iranian regime to pressure the international community by turning the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab into a card for political blackmail.
