Angry Protests Erupt in Taiz Over Persistent Water Crisis

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
Public anger escalated in the city of Taiz today, Wednesday, over a persistent water crisis that has cut off supply to several neighborhoods, despite some being close to the main tanks that feed the city.
In the “Sinah” neighborhood, protesters burned tires and blocked major streets, expressing their frustration at being deprived of water for months while other neighborhoods receive supplies. Residents considered this “deliberate neglect” by the relevant authorities, demanding an immediate resumption of water pumping and an end to what they called “discriminatory distribution.”
In the “Al-Manakh” neighborhood, residents organized a protest, holding up signs that condemned the disregard of their repeated complaints. They called on local authorities and the water corporation to take responsibility and find lasting solutions, as many have been forced to buy water from tankers at exorbitant prices, adding to their financial burdens.
Protesters in both areas stressed that ignoring the crisis, amid the difficult economic conditions and the siege on the city, exacerbates their daily suffering. They emphasized that they will continue their escalatory steps, with the potential to expand the protests until their demands are met and fair water distribution to all neighborhoods is guaranteed.
