France Calls for an End to Houthi Attacks and Supports a Comprehensive Political Solution in Yemen

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
France reiterated its condemnation of the Houthis’ unjustified attacks in the Red Sea and on Israeli territory, stressing the need to halt these attacks, which pose a serious threat to maritime navigation and global freedom of movement.
This came in a statement by Guy Darmadikary, France’s Deputy Permanent Representative, during a UN Security Council session.
France affirmed its commitment to safeguarding maritime safety within the framework of the European Union’s security and defense policy, calling on countries supplying the Houthis with weapons—particularly Iran—to comply with the internationally imposed arms embargo.
Paris also drew attention to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen, expressing deep concern over the risk of famine and its negative impact on children and displaced persons. It emphasized that the Houthis bear primary responsibility for this deterioration due to their obstruction of humanitarian aid delivery and detention of humanitarian and diplomatic workers.
France called for the removal of all obstacles to humanitarian support, the unconditional release of detained humanitarian and UN personnel, and the protection of civilian infrastructure and populations in accordance with international humanitarian law.
The country also stressed the importance of a comprehensive political solution that ensures the participation of Yemeni women and youth, under UN auspices, reaffirming its full support for the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to end the conflict and promote Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, stability, and regional security.
These remarks came amid ongoing tensions and attacks that pose a threat to maritime and regional security, according to international news agencies covering the session.
