Mothers of Abductees and Human Rights Team Visit Marib Prisons to Advocate for Detainees’ Rights

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The Abductees’ Mothers’ Association, as part of a joint human rights team, conducted field visits to several judicial and security authorities in Marib governorate. This effort is part of their broader campaign, “Save the Abductees,” which aims to advocate for detainees’ rights and ensure their well-being.

The multi-day visits are intended to monitor conditions in prisons and detention centers, examine how male and female inmates are treated, and explore ways to improve their circumstances while ensuring compliance with national laws and international human rights standards.

The team met with the Head of the Court of Appeal, the Marib Police Chief, and the heads of the Central Prison and Criminal Investigations Department. Discussions focused on the legal frameworks for prison administration and the mechanisms for monitoring and supervising them.

Judge Aref Al-Mikhlafi, Head of the Court of Appeal, praised the association’s role, noting that their previous visits to the Political Security Prison helped improve the family visitation system and removed obstacles that families faced.

The association also commended the Public Prosecution’s cooperation in its recent initiative, which led to the release of all female detainees from the Political Security Prison. The association expressed its hope for further cooperation in its ongoing initiatives to secure the unconditional release of all abductees from all parties.
