Yemeni Government Calls for Urgent Support to Address Economic and Service Challenges

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The Yemeni government has called on the international community and friendly nations to provide urgent support to address its economic and service challenges and enhance financial stability. This comes as resources have declined by 70% due to Houthi attacks on oil export ports.

In a statement to the Security Council, the government praised Saudi Arabia and the UAE for their developmental and humanitarian support. It also warned against Iran’s continued interference and arms smuggling to the Houthis, which it said poses a threat to Yemeni, regional, and international security.

The statement clarified that “the Houthi militias continue to obstruct peace efforts and worsen the economic crisis by issuing and enforcing a counterfeit currency, which undermines previous financial agreements and deepens the divide.”

The government confirmed its commitment to implementing financial and administrative reforms and maintaining currency stability. It called on donors to fill the funding gap for humanitarian operations and to cooperate in the food security conference scheduled for next October.

It reiterated its commitment to a comprehensive peace based on the agreed-upon terms and to working with regional and international partners to ensure Yemen’s security and stability and to protect international navigation.
