Severe Electricity Crisis Grips Aden After Complete System Collapse
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom / Aden:
The city of Aden experienced widespread power outages from Sunday evening through early Monday morning as the electricity system completely collapsed, leaving most areas without power.
Sources within the Public Electricity Corporation confirmed that a technical fault at 11:00 PM on Sunday led to the total breakdown of the electrical grid.
They explained that the crisis was exacerbated by several diesel-powered generation plants going offline due to fuel shortages, causing generation capacity to plummet to critically low levels.
It pointed out that the Al-Mansoura power station remained out of service for an extended period, while the President’s station bore the burden of electricity generation due to limited resources and high demand for power.
Sources noted that the electricity grid began to gradually recover with the activation of the second turbine at the Al-Ra’ees plant, and power started to return by Monday midnight.
