Israeli Official: We Targeted Mohammed Ali al-Houthi in a Precision Airstrike on Sanaa

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

An Israeli military official said on Sunday that the Israeli Air Force carried out a precision airstrike on Saturday evening in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, targeting senior Houthi leader Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a member of the group’s Supreme Political Council.

Earlier on Sunday, the Israeli army stated that it would soon announce the results of Saturday’s strike in Sanaa.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the strike was part of Israel’s response to recent Houthi attacks, noting that al-Houthi was one of the masterminds behind the escalation of missile and drone attacks on Israeli cities in recent weeks.

According to the Wall Street Journal report, the Israeli operation followed “precise intelligence tracking” and targeted a site believed to have hosted a meeting of the Houthis’ Supreme Political and Military Council.

In the same context, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority stated that if the attempted assassination of al-Houthi is confirmed, it would represent a “painful blow to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard,” which maintains close ties with the Houthis’ top military leadership.

Hebrew media also revealed on Saturday that “Israel attempted to assassinate the Houthis’ Chief of Staff, Mohammed Abdul Karim al-Ghamari, in a strike targeting a meeting of the Houthis’ Supreme Military Council in Sanaa.”

The Houthi group has not officially confirmed the targeting of Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, nor have there been any immediate comments from Tehran.
