Netanyahu: Iran Planned to Transfer Nuclear Weapons to the Houthis

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Iran of seeking to transfer nuclear weapons to the Houthi group in Yemen, describing the move as a threat not only to Israel but to the entire region and the world.

In an interview with the American network Fox News on Sunday evening, Netanyahu said, “Israeli intelligence confirms that Tehran was planning to equip its regional proxies—chief among them the Houthis—with nuclear weapons,” calling this information “extremely dangerous” and stating that Israel has shared it with the US.

Netanyahu emphasized that Iran has produced 10,000 ballistic missiles over the past three years, adding that Tel Aviv has observed unprecedented advancements in Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities—prompting Israel to carry out preemptive airstrikes against Iranian targets.

Earlier, an Israeli military official stated that the Israeli Air Force had carried out a precision airstrike on Saturday evening in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, targeting senior Houthi leader Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a member of the group’s Supreme Political Council.

Hebrew media also revealed on Saturday that “Israel attempted to assassinate the Houthis’ Chief of Staff, Mohammed Abdul Karim al-Ghamari, in an airstrike targeting a meeting of the Houthis’ Supreme Military Council in Sana’a.”
