Yemen Seeks Dutch Support to Enhance Coast Guard Capabilities in Confronting the Houthis

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

Member of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Abdullah Al-Alimi, met with the Dutch Ambassador to Yemen, Janet Seppen, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, where they discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the field of supporting the Yemeni Coast Guard forces to counter the threats posed by the Houthi group.

The meeting, according to the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba), came to discuss the latest developments in Yemen, including the economic, service, and humanitarian challenges resulting from the Houthi attacks on oil facilities and their threat to international maritime security.

During the meeting, the Yemeni presidential member praised the Netherlands’ supportive role for Yemen in development, relief, and capacity-building fields, stressing the importance of the international community standing by the Yemeni people and supporting the Yemeni government to enhance the capabilities of the Coast Guard.

He emphasized that strengthening these forces is necessary to confront Houthi attacks, protect maritime navigation lines, and control borders to prevent arms smuggling to the militias, noting that the Yemeni state’s restoration of full control over its territory and the achievement of peace requires a genuine partnership with the legitimate government.

He warned that the continuation of Houthi threats without a radical solution will remain a danger threatening local, regional, and international security, calling for support for Yemen’s efforts to restore state institutions and achieve stability.
