Yemeni Presidential Council Calls on Houthis to Lay Down Arms and Embrace Peace

The Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council held a meeting today, Thursday, chaired by President Rashad Al-Alimi, with the attendance of its members, to discuss local and regional developments, particularly the Houthi escalation and its repercussions on the economic and security situations.
During the meeting, the Presidential Council held the “Houthi militias fully responsible for the deterioration of living conditions, the militarization of territorial waters, and the impact of that on Yemeni national security.”
The Council called on the Houthis to “lay down their arms” and engage in the peace process in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
Regarding the economic and service conditions, the Council discussed measures to improve basic services, ensure the payment of salaries, import essential goods, and operate power plants.
It affirmed its support for the policies of the Central Bank of Yemen to improve the exchange rate and combat inflation.
Regarding the military and security situation, the Council reviewed the latest developments on the military fronts and efforts to unify ranks to enhance combat readiness.
Regarding international and regional support, the Council welcomed the increasing international support for the restoration of Yemeni state institutions, stressing the importance of supporting the Yemeni army to extend sovereignty over all national territory.
The Council noted the government’s efforts to address service crises, enhance financial transparency, and comply with the requirements of combating terrorism and its financing.
The Council concluded its meeting by reviewing its previous recommendations and making new decisions on the issues on its agenda.
