UN Commission Repatriates New Batch of Somali Refugees from Yemen to Their Homeland

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced the implementation of a new trip to repatriate 148 Somali refugees from Yemen to Somalia, as part of the Voluntary Repatriation Program managed by the Commission to support refugees wishing to return to their homeland in peace and safety.
The air journey departed on Tuesday from Aden International Airport, making it the fourth flight this year to transport Somali refugees from Yemen to their country, within the framework of ongoing UN efforts to facilitate the voluntary and orderly return of refugees.
The UNHCR Representative in Yemen, Marin Din Kajdomkaj, said in a post on the “X” platform that the Commission provided support to 661 Somali refugees during 2024, who successfully returned via one sea journey and four air trips. This reflects the UN’s commitment to providing humanitarian and sustainable solutions to the issues of refugees affected by the security and humanitarian conditions in the region.
Through the Voluntary Repatriation Program, the UNHCR seeks to guarantee the rights of refugees and meet their needs, with continuous coordination with local and international authorities to secure their safe transition and the hospitable reception that befits their humanitarian situation.
