Eritrea Releases 37 Yemeni Fishermen After a Month of Detention and Confiscation of Their Boats

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Thirty-seven Yemeni fishermen from the western province of Al-Hudaidah arrived on Friday at the Al-Khokha port after being released by Eritrean authorities, following nearly a month of detention without any legal justification.
According to media from the local authority in Al-Hudaidah, affiliated with the Yemeni government, the fishermen endured harsh conditions during their detention and were subjected to mistreatment. Eritrean authorities also confiscated their boats and equipment, further exacerbating their suffering and economic losses.
Incidents of Yemeni fishermen being detained by Eritrean forces have been recurring over the past few years. Hundreds have been arrested while working in regional waters, facing prolonged arbitrary detention, forced labor, and degrading conditions intended to restrict their activities and deprive them of their legitimate livelihood.
