Yemeni Coast Guard Participates in Nairobi Meetings to Enhance Red Sea Maritime Security

The Yemeni Coast Guard Authority, alongside representatives from the Customs Authority, the Maritime Affairs Authority, the Ministry of Justice, and the Interpol office in Yemen, participated in regional meetings focused on enhancing maritime security in the Red Sea region. The meetings took place in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, from May 20 to 23, 2025.
The gatherings brought together delegations from regional countries such as Sudan, Somalia, Djibouti, and Ethiopia. Discussions centered on the complex maritime challenges facing the area, particularly regarding arms and drug trafficking and organized crime.
During the sessions, participants discussed ways to improve maritime law enforcement, strengthen port security, and ensure navigation safety. They also emphasized the need to raise the level of coordination and shared awareness.
The event was organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in cooperation with Interpol and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), with support from the European Union.
Participants issued a set of recommendations calling for enhanced regional cooperation, capacity building for security personnel, and the provision of technical and logistical support to strengthen efforts to protect territorial waters amid the escalating challenges in the Red Sea.
