400 Cases of Rabies in 5 Months in Taiz

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Health authorities in Taiz Governorate (southwestern Yemen) registered more than 400 cases of rabies during the first five months of 2026, amid warnings of the widening spread of the disease.

Health media official Tayseer Al-Samai said on Sunday that rabies is a viral disease that affects warm-blooded animals, primarily dogs, and can be transmitted to humans through bites or scratches from an infected animal.

He explained that the virus attacks the brain and nervous system and can lead to death if preventive treatment is not received in a timely manner, noting that prevention is done by washing the site of injury with water and soap and heading immediately to the nearest health facility to obtain the necessary vaccine and treatment.
