Yemeni Human Rights Minister Affirms Commitment to Protecting Journalists and Enhancing Media Freedom

Mushdal Omar, the Minister of Human Rights, affirmed the Yemeni government’s commitment to protecting journalists and enabling them to perform their duties freely and safely, emphasizing their pivotal role in uncovering the truth and promoting accountability.

In a tweet posted on the “X” platform on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, Omar stated that journalists are essential partners in establishing transparency, calling for the provision of a safe media environment that respects rights and preserves human dignity.

He explained that the Ministry is working on developing monitoring and documentation mechanisms in accordance with national and international standards, contributing to the confrontation of violations—foremost among them being attacks on journalists and freedom of expression.

He pointed to the importance of concerted efforts to protect media freedoms and ensure a working environment that enables journalists to fulfill their mission without restrictions or threats.
