Al-Sarari: Assassination of Social Fund Official in Aden is a Terrorist Message Targeting Developmental Work

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Chairman  of the Defend Foundation for Rights and Freedoms, lawyer Huda al-Sarari, condemned the killing of Wissam Qaid, the Acting Executive Director of the Social Fund for Development (SFD) in the city of Aden. This occurred hours after he was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in front of his home; his body was later discovered inside his car under what were described as bloody circumstances.

Al-Sarari stated that this crime cannot be viewed as an isolated incident. Rather, it represents a clear message of intimidation targeting everyone involved in reconstruction and development efforts in the country. She noted that the victim was among the cadres who worked to reactivate a national institution to serve citizens and strengthen institutional work.

She added that the assassination of a civilian official in broad daylight, in a city supposedly under the control of security and civil authorities, reflects the extent of the security breakdown and existing challenges. She warned of the danger of continued impunity for such crimes.

Al-Sarari called on the security apparatus in Aden to assume full responsibility for tracking down the perpetrators, uncovering the parties involved in the crime, and bringing them to justice without delay. She emphasized that any leniency in this matter would open the door for further assassinations and violence.
