Yemeni Teachers Syndicate Condemns Assassination of Prominent Educator, Demands Urgent Trial for Perpetrators

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Yemeni Teachers Syndicate on Saturday condemned the assassination of educator Dr. Abdulrahman al-Shaer, demanding an urgent trial for the perpetrators.
In a statement issued on April 25, 2026, the Syndicate said that al-Shaer, Chairman of the Board of Al-Nawras Model Schools, was killed while participating in the launch of the Fifth Robotics and AI Championship, describing the incident as a “treacherous and sinful crime.”
The statement added that the assassination “did not target a specific individual, but rather struck the Yemeni mind and the spirit of innovation,” considering it an assault on the educational system and the values of enlightenment and creativity.
The Syndicate noted that the incident is part of a “systematic series” targeting educational talents, warning that silence or laxity in dealing with such crimes encourages their recurrence and threatens social stability.
The Syndicate held local authorities, represented by the Ministry of Interior and the Aden Governorate, responsible for uncovering the circumstances of the crime and pursuing those involved, calling for their arrest and for them to be brought to a swift and public trial.
It also called on the judicial authorities to expedite the adjudication of the case and impose the maximum penalties on the perpetrators, while urging human rights organizations and the media to turn the case into a matter of public opinion.
Concluding its statement, the Syndicate mourned al-Shaer, expressing condolences to his family and the educational community, and emphasizing that Yemen has lost “one of its educational icons.”
