Houthis Release Sheikh Al-Hazmi Following Tribal Pressure

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Houthi group released Sheikh Hamad bin Fadgham al-Hazmi on Sunday, seven days after his arrest, following tribal mediation between the Houthis and tribes in Al-Jawf Governorate, northern Yemen.
Houthi forces arrested Sheikh al-Hazmi on April 19 from his home in the Al-Yatama area and took him to Sana’a, prompting the Dhu Hussein tribes—to which Sheikh al-Hazmi belongs—to initiate a “tribal mobilization” (Nakef).
Armed tribal crowds gathered from various areas in Al-Jawf and neighboring governorates before a tribal mediation led by Sheikh Naji bin Abdulaziz al-Shaif intervened to disperse the gathering in exchange for the Sheikh’s release.
In his first statement, Sheikh al-Hazmi expressed his gratitude to the tribes that stood in solidarity with him and demanded his release, appearing alongside Sheikh Naji al-Shaif at the latter’s home in Sana’a this Sunday.
The tribal mediation had successfully convinced the tribes on Thursday to dismantle their protest camps (Matarih) in exchange for a written guarantee for Sheikh al-Hazmi’s release.
