Coinciding with World Health Day: UN Call to Strengthen Joint Action in Yemen

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) called on Tuesday for enhanced cooperation to face health threats in Yemen.

In a statement, the organization said: “World Health Day 2026 is celebrated under the theme ‘Together for Health, Support Science,’ emphasizing the importance of scientific cooperation in protecting the health of humans, animals, plants, and the planet.”

The statement noted that “the World Health Organization in Yemen joins this global call to highlight the pivotal role of science and evidence-based action in protecting lives and sustaining health services.”

The statement continued: “Science represents a lifeline in Yemen amid ongoing conflict, economic challenges, and health emergencies that exhaust the health system. From controlling disease outbreaks to ensuring access to basic services, evidence-based interventions guide the course of the health response, contributing to saving lives and supporting the communities most in need.”

The statement pointed out that “in Yemen, where climate risks overlap with disease outbreaks, strengthening multi-sectoral and science-based cooperation becomes vital for preventing health threats and responding effectively to them.”

It added: “Across the country, the World Health Organization works in close cooperation with health authorities and partners to transform science into tangible practices. This includes strengthening disease surveillance systems, supporting laboratories, training thousands of health personnel, and providing essential medicines and supplies to medical facilities, to ensure that health decisions are based on data, expertise, and global standards under the most difficult circumstances.”
