US Affirms Support for Yemen in Face of Houthi Escalation

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The United States has affirmed its support for the Yemeni government in confronting the escalation of the Houthi armed group and preventing the use of Yemen as a platform to threaten regional and international security.
This came during a meeting between the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaya Mohsen Al-Zindani, and the US Ambassador to Yemen, Steven Fagin, coinciding with the Houthi armed group’s announcement of entering the war in support of Iran.
Al-Zindani emphasized his appreciation for US support for state institutions and the enhancement of stability, outlining the government’s efforts to improve basic services, strengthen security, institutional work, build capacity, and increase public revenues to meet the needs of citizens.
The US Ambassador noted the continuation of cooperation with the Yemeni government to support stability and state institutions in the face of ongoing challenges, particularly in light of the Houthi escalation and their entry into the war as a proxy for Iran, following the execution of their first operation using ballistic missiles on southern Israel, according to the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation.
The meeting coincided with the internationally recognized Yemeni government’s condemnation of “the Iranian regime’s attempts to exploit Yemen in external conflicts,” warning of the consequences of Houthi involvement in attacking Israel and calling for respect for Yemeni sovereignty.
In an official statement, the government affirmed that any military actions outside the framework of the state and its institutions are considered illegitimate hostile acts, reiterating its commitment to protecting civilians, preserving national sovereignty, and taking all necessary measures to prevent the use of Yemen as a platform to threaten regional and international security, in accordance with international law and Security Council resolutions.
