United Nations Condemns the Massacre Committed by the Houthis Against Civilians in Hajjah

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The United Nations has condemned the massacre carried out by the Houthis on Sunday in Hajjah (northwestern Yemen), which left about 30 civilians dead and injured, including children.

The UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, expressed concern over the attack in a statement published on his account on X, regarding the incident that occurred in the Hairan District of Hajjah Governorate on March 15 while civilians were gathered for iftar during the month of Ramadan.

The UN envoy stressed that it is necessary to hold those responsible for the attack accountable and to protect civilians at all times in accordance with the provisions of international humanitarian law.

He noted that preliminary information indicates the attack resulted in the killing of at least eight civilians and the injury of dozens, including children. However, he did not explicitly mention the Houthis and limited his statement to condemning the crime.

On Sunday, the Houthi group shelled a gathering of civilians in the Hairan District while they were assembled to eat the iftar meal, resulting in deaths and injuries, including among children.
