Yemeni Government Condemns Houthi Massacre in Hajjah as Death Toll Rises To 16

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The death toll from the massacre committed by the Houthi group on Sunday evening against civilians in Hajjah Governorate (northwestern Yemen) has risen to 16 dead, including 6 children, and 14 others injured.

Government sources stated that the shelling targeted the courtyard of citizen Adel Junaid’s gathering following a drone surveillance operation, resulting in 30 casualties between dead and wounded. The sources explained that the Houthi group targeted a gathering of residents with artillery fire while they were having their Iftar meal in the Hayran district of Hajjah Governorate.

The Yemeni government condemned the Houthi shelling of civilians, describing the massacre as “heinous,” representing a “flagrant violation of religious and human values, added to the black record of the group’s violations against Yemenis since its coup.”

Yemeni Minister of Information Muammar al-Eryani called on the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to clearly condemn this crime and work to hold its perpetrators accountable, warning that international silence gives the Houthi group a green light to persist in shedding the blood of civilians.
