Telecommunication Minister Announces Government Review of Telecom Companies in Yemen

Yemen’s Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology, Shadi Basurah, affirmed that the ministry is moving forward with reviewing the status of companies operating in the telecommunications sector and correcting the legal standing of companies that are in violation or non-compliant. The move aims to regulate the market and strengthen principles of transparency and equal opportunity in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

During a meeting he chaired today in the interim capital, Aden, with directors-general of technical and financial departments, and in the presence of Deputy Minister Eng. Ragheed Al-Kathiri, Minister Basurah stressed the importance of following up on license renewal files for active companies. He noted that the continuation of service provision would be linked to compliance with legal and technical standards.

He added that these measures are part of the ministry’s plan to increase revenues and expand resources in support of the state’s financial sustainability.

The meeting also discussed mechanisms for modernizing infrastructure and building a secure national telecommunications network that keeps pace with technological developments and meets current needs, with a focus on turning available opportunities into tangible investment projects.

The minister called for unified efforts and overcoming challenges from the previous phase through a national vision that places the public interest above all else. He affirmed that the ministry is working in line with the government’s program to enhance performance efficiency and improve the quality of services provided to the community.

The session concluded with a review of technical and financial performance reports from various departments, with Minister Basurah emphasizing the need to institutionalize work practices and achieve tangible results that positively reflect on the quality of telecommunications and information technology services in the country.
