Authorities Urged to Prevent Manipulation as Gas Company Announces 55% Increase in Allocations to Four Governorates

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Yemeni Gas Company announced on Monday a significant increase in quantities delivered to southern and eastern governorates during February, amounting to 420 additional tankers above the allocated quotas—a 55% rise.

In a statement to the state news agency, the company said that 763 tankers carrying household cooking gas were delivered over the past three weeks to Aden, Taiz, Lahj, and Hadramawt—an increase of 420 tankers (55%) above the scheduled quotas. The move aims to stabilize the market and meet rising demand ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

According to the company, Aden received 239 tankers (an increase of 162), Taiz 204 tankers (up 90), Lahj 157 tankers (up 108), and Hadramawt 163 tankers (up 60).

The company called on local authorities and security agencies to cooperate in ensuring the tankers reach citizens and to prevent any manipulation that could prolong the crisis or generate illicit profits at the expense of public suffering.

Government-controlled governorates in Yemen are experiencing a severe household gas shortage, exacerbated by increased demand during Ramadan. The company noted that rising consumption is also linked to growing use of gas as fuel for cars and buses, while stressing that households remain the priority.
