Houthi Group Releases Ba’ath Party Leader After 7 Months of Detention

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

On Saturday, the Houthi group in Sana’a released Dr. Rami Abdulwahab Mahmoud, a leader in the Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party, following nearly seven months of detention.

Party sources stated that the Houthi group released Rami Mahmoud after he was held for over seven months, having been arrested in August 2025.

Dr. Rami is the son of the prominent late Yemeni politician Mahmoud Abdulwahab, the former Secretary-General of the Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party (Yemen Region) who passed away in mid-2021.

During the second half of 2025, the Houthis launched an extensive arrest campaign that included party leaders, academics, and former members of local authorities in several provinces, most notably Sana’a, Dhamar, and Ibb.

The Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party is considered an ally of the Houthis, alongside the Sana’a-based wing of the General People’s Congress. Dr. Rami Mahmoud’s detention coincided with the arrest of the Secretary-General of the Sana’a GPC, Ghazi Ahmed al-Ahwal.
