Yemeni Parties Warn Against Exploiting “Chaos in Aden” for External Agendas

Yemen Monitor — Newsroom:
The National Coalition of Parties and Political Components warned against attempts by external actors to exploit the recent unrest in the temporary capital Aden, saying such efforts aim to undermine security and destabilize the government. It stressed that protecting state institutions and safeguarding security is a collective national responsibility.
In a statement, the coalition referred to the riots that took place in Aden on Thursday evening, expressing regret over the injuries reported and the panic these events caused among citizens — especially children — in nearby civilian facilities.
The statement emphasized that the right to peaceful expression is constitutionally guaranteed, but warned that any escalation outside the framework of the law does not serve the city or its residents’ interests. Instead, it opens the door for opponents of stability to exploit the situation to disrupt government efforts and political solutions during this sensitive period.
The coalition also highlighted its appreciation for the noticeable recent improvement in services in Aden, stressing the importance of preserving these gains and building on them as a key step toward restoring stability and improving citizens’ lives. It pointed to the continued support of Saudi Arabia in normalizing conditions, enhancing services, and easing the suffering of the city’s residents.
The statement condemned the parties behind these hostile acts against state institutions, saying they aim to drag the temporary capital back into chaos. It added that repeating past mistakes has weakened national unity and strengthened the continued presence of the Houthi movement militias, stressing that the current phase requires prioritizing the national interest and unifying efforts.
It further stressed that the safest path to resolving outstanding issues — foremost among them the Southern issue — lies in comprehensive Southern-Southern dialogue, away from chaos and illegitimate pressure tactics. Citizens were urged not to be drawn into suspicious calls supported by external actors who do not favor security and stability in the country.
The coalition also called on all political forces and components to engage responsibly in the dialogue process to preserve Aden’s stability, protect its gains, and pave the way for a more balanced and just political phase.
Earlier, state leadership — through an official source in the presidency of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council — had condemned incitement, armed mobilization, and attempts to attack state institutions in Aden that resulted in casualties. This followed the first meeting of the new government, which began setting priorities to improve services and living conditions in the liberated provinces.
The source stated that security forces dealt with the escalation “with the utmost restraint,” dispersing gatherings that sought to block roads, incite unrest, and target security personnel while they carried out their duties to protect sovereign facilities and maintain public order in accordance with the law.
He added that those behind the financing, arming, and incitement — including sending individuals in civilian clothing to confront security forces — bear political, moral, and legal responsibility for the casualties, warning against “gambling with the security of the capital and the interests of its residents.”
The source reaffirmed the state’s full respect for the constitutionally guaranteed right to peaceful expression, while stressing that any attempt to attack national institutions, disrupt their work, or use the streets to achieve illegitimate political goals will be dealt with firmly and will not be allowed to recur under any circumstances.
He concluded that holding the government meeting in Aden sends a clear message of the state’s determination to restore the proper functioning of its institutions from within, consolidate a model of stability, normalize conditions, improve services, and launch rapid-impact development projects paving the way for a promising phase.
