Yemeni Presidential Council Member Al-Arada Briefs EU Ambassadors on Houthi Violations and Military Escalation

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Major General Sultan al-Arada, a member of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), provided ambassadors and representatives of European Union missions to Yemen with a comprehensive overview today, Monday, regarding Houthi violations, their military escalation, and the group’s persistent threats to international navigation.

During the meeting, which included the Head of the EU Delegation, Patrick Simonnet, and ambassadors and representatives from over 20 European countries, Al-Arada emphasized that the Houthi group—backed by the Iranian regime—continues to reject all regional and international initiatives while persisting in its threats to global waterways and trade routes.

Al-Arada pointed out that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) plays a pivotal role in this escalation by supplying the militia with weapons and technology and managing field operations. He noted that several IRGC leaders have been killed within Yemeni territory while participating in these operations.

The PLC member stressed that “international leniency” has encouraged the militia to persist in its violations and undermine efforts to end the suffering of the Yemeni people, calling for intensified international political and economic pressure on the group. Al-Arada described the EU’s decision to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization as a “step in the right direction” to deter Iranian interventions that have destabilized the country and the region.

Furthermore, Al-Arada called on the international community to double its support for the Yemeni government to face economic and humanitarian challenges resulting from the war. He reaffirmed the PLC’s commitment to a path of just and comprehensive peace based on the three references as the sole guarantee for ending the crisis and restoring the state.

For their part, the European ambassadors renewed their countries’ commitment to supporting Yemen’s security and stability, as well as backing UN-led efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and achieve a comprehensive political settlement.
