Guterres Calls for Overcoming Global Divisions to Rescue Affected People in Yemen, Gaza, and Sudan

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, in a Ramadan message, called on the international community to move past divisions and provide urgent support to those in need.

Guterres highlighted the immense suffering of people in several regions across the globe—from Afghanistan to Yemen, Gaza, and Sudan—where millions continue to face the ravages of war, hunger, displacement, and discrimination.

The Secretary-General’s message comes ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, described as a sacred period for reflection, prayer, and a “higher vision of hope and peace.” However, he noted that this vision remains painfully out of reach for many.

He urged the international community to bridge gaps, assist vulnerable communities, and uphold the rights and dignity of every individual. Guterres also mentioned his annual tradition of visiting Muslim communities during Ramadan and fasting for a day in solidarity.

In conclusion, Guterres expressed his hope that the holy month would inspire collective efforts to build a world that is more peaceful, generous, and just.
