Taiz Court to Hold First Trial Session of “Ghazwan Al-Mekhlafi” Tomorrow

Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:

The Specialized Criminal Court in the city of Taiz will hold tomorrow, Thursday, the first trial session of wanted suspect Ghazwan Al-Mekhlafi, who faces several serious criminal charges.

The trial comes after Taiz Governorate Police announced last month the success of Yemeni–Saudi security coordination that led to Al-Mekhlafi’s arrest and handover to local security authorities following a long period of pursuit abroad.

The Security Media Center stated that Yemeni Interpol, in cooperation with Saudi Interpol, succeeded in tracking the wanted suspect as part of joint efforts aimed at pursuing fugitives from justice and strengthening international security cooperation.

Security authorities affirmed that Al-Mekhlafi’s arrest falls within the Ministry of Interior’s broader efforts to track down wanted individuals, prevent them from evading accountability, and enhance coordination with regional and international law enforcement organizations in support of security and stability.

Ghazwan Al-Mekhlafi had fled in February 2023 to areas under Houthi control after security forces in Taiz intensified pressure on him. He later appeared on media outlets affiliated with the group, where he participated in televised interviews and programs.

According to media sources, Al-Mekhlafi later disappeared for a period before reportedly traveling from Sanaa Airport and reaching Saudi Arabia via Jordan. Security coordination efforts between Yemeni and Saudi Interpol ultimately led to his arrest and return to Taiz.
