Protest in Aden: Demands to Hold Those Involved in Forced Disappearances and Torture Accountable

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Association of Abductees’ Mothers in Aden has demanded the disclosure of the fate of those forcibly disappeared for over a decade before any moves are made to close down prisons.

During a protest held today in front of the governorate building in the Mualla district, the association emphasized the necessity of inventorying all prisons and providing a full disclosure of the names of the forcibly disappeared who were held within them.

The protesters demanded guarantees for the safety of the disappeared, their immediate release, and the preservation of evidence that some are reportedly attempting to erase to hide the truth. Participants held up photos of their missing loved ones and banners calling for an end to the families’ suffering.

Key Demands from the Final Statement:

  • Independent Investigations: Launching transparent inquiries into all cases of forced disappearance and torture.
  • Accountability: Holding those proven to be involved in managing these prisons or committing violations within them accountable, ensuring no official escapes punishment.
  • Governor’s Intervention: Calling on the Governor of Aden to make the file of abductees and the forcibly disappeared a top priority and to take concrete steps toward achieving justice and reparations for the victims and their families.
