Al-Bayda: Houthis Hand Over the Bodies of 8 Civilians a Year After Killing Them and Detaining Their Remains

Yemen Monitor / Al-Bayda / Special:

The Houthi group handed over, on Saturday, the bodies of eight people from the Hanka Al Masoud area in Al-Bayda Governorate (central Yemen), after holding them for a year following armed clashes that erupted in January 2025.

Local sources told Yemen Monitor that the group released the bodies of eight victims out of a total of eleven bodies it had continued to detain since clashes broke out last year between the Houthis and residents of the Hanka Al Masoud area in Al-Qurashiyah District.

The sources explained that the released bodies belong to: Issa Mohammed Al-Adwar Al-Masoudi, Mohammed Ali Ahmed Atroos Al-Masoudi, Mohammed Muqbil Al-Mutlah Al-Masoudi, Hassan Ali Al-Mutlah Al-Masoudi, Abduh Jabr Al-Mutlah Al-Masoudi, Abdullah Ali Al-Rais Al-Mutlah Al-Masoudi, Jabr Saleh Al-Mutlah Al-Masoudi, and Saleh Harqash Al-Masoudi.

The source confirmed that the bodies of three others remain in detention: Saleh Abdullah Al-Mutlah Al-Masoudi, Amer Madan, and Al-Durmah Al-Masoudi.

According to the source, burial ceremonies for the released bodies were held today (January 31, 2026) in the city of Dhamar (central Yemen), amid heavy security measures and a ban on photography or documentation.

It is worth noting that the Houthi group had previously released six other bodies on January 28, which were also buried in Dhamar, away from the victims’ home areas. Meanwhile, the group continues to detain dozens of residents from the area since its incursion in January 2025, amid accusations by human rights organizations that the group committed widespread violations during that campaign.
