“Masam” Destroys Over 1,500 Mines and Unexploded Ordnance in Mukalla

The engineering teams of the “Masam” demining project in Yemen carried out a new destruction operation in the city of Mukalla, Hadramawt Governorate, destroying 1,531 mines and pieces of explosive remnants of war. This marks the third such operation in the city.
The project’s media center explained that the operation was carried out with the participation of Masam’s emergency teams in cooperation with the Executive Center for Mine Action – Mukalla branch, as part of ongoing efforts to clear the city and its surroundings of the dangers posed by mines and unexploded ordnance.
In a press statement, the project confirmed that this step comes within the framework of a continuous plan to enhance civilian safety, secure residential neighborhoods, roads, and public facilities, and reduce the risks threatening the population.
The destroyed materials included 10 anti-tank mines, 6 anti-personnel mines, 4 guided missiles (type N72), 23 82mm mortar shells, 183 37mm shells, 150 23mm shells, in addition to 15 hand grenades, 720 rounds of 12.7mm caliber, and 420 rounds of 14.7mm caliber.
According to the project’s data, the total amount destroyed in Mukalla since January 17 has risen to 7,921 pieces of mines, explosive devices, and unexploded ordnance, as part of ongoing operations to secure the governorate and reduce the risks caused by the remnants of war.
