Houthi Group Hands Over 6 Detained Bodies a Year After “Hankat Al Masoud” Events in Al-Bayda

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Houthi group handed over six bodies on Wednesday out of 15 that have been detained for a year, belonging to victims of the “Hankat Al Masoud” clashes in the Al-Qurayshiyah district of Al-Bayda Governorate.

Local sources reported that the group forced the families of the six victims to bury them in the city of Dhamar, far from their hometowns and regions in Al-Bayda. Human rights activists described this as a violation of the families’ rights to bury their loved ones in accordance with norms, traditions, and laws guaranteed both nationally and internationally.

This move, involving only 6 out of 15 bodies, was characterized by activists as a flagrant violation of human dignity and the rules of International Humanitarian Law.

The Houthi group continues to withhold nine other bodies of victims from the same incident. Furthermore, 39 individuals from the area remain in detention without clear legal charges or trial, amidst a total absence of judicial guarantees.

The Hankat Al Masoud area witnessed clashes between local residents and the Houthi group in mid-January 2025, resulting in deaths and injuries on both sides. Human rights organizations have accused the Houthi group of committing crimes during the storming of the area and conducting a widespread campaign of arrests.
